Space Systems Command Launches COSMIC to Foster Innovation and Collaboration in the Commercial Space


Space Systems Command (SSC) has inaugurated the Commercial Space Marketplace for Innovation and Collaboration (COSMIC) in Chantilly, Virginia, In partnership with the Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC)


COSMIC aims to enhance collaboration between SSC and the commercial space industry, government agencies, and academia.

The establishment of COSMIC signifies SSC's shift from bespoke development to off-the-shelf acquisition of technologies, services, and products. By leveraging the thriving commercial space industry and advancements in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity, SSC aims to fill warfighter capability gaps swiftly and cost-effectively. COSMIC provides a physical space for collaboration, data analytics, market research access, and technology transfer advice, facilitating partnerships across government, industry, and academia to accelerate technological innovation.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the significance of commercial partnerships in addressing emerging threats in space and accelerating the delivery of capabilities to the military.
